Getting Started with Qualtrics

Qualtrics users seeking support (including phone calls) will be required to login to the Support Center in order to submit a ticket to Qualtrics Support. Please use “msu” as the organization (brand) ID through the SSO log-in portal.

MSU has a licensing agreement with Qualtrics enabling all students, faculty, and staff to use this research survey tool at no cost. Read the MSU Qualtrics Getting Started for steps on creating a survey and other resources.

MSU Qualtrics uses your NetID and password. Click “Log into Qualtrics” to log into the survey application.

Qualtrics can be used for surveys as well as research data collection. The web-hosted service works across all major current browser versions and platforms.

Research Data & Survey Owner Responsibilities

The MSU community should be familiar with the MSU Institutional Data Policy and MSU Web Accessibility Policy before creating any Qualtrics surveys. Exercise caution and discretion when working with Qualtrics.

Allowed Use — Qualtrics is for use by current MSU faculty, staff, and students. Surveys must be for internal MSU teaching, research, or business purposes. Surveys may NOT be used for commercial or non-internal business or on behalf of any other institution or entity.

Qualtrics Support offers a library of articles on creating surveys, analyzing data, and research resources.

Institutional Data

Qualtrics provides industry-standard data security measures designed to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and use of the data collected by users of its service. However, users have a responsibility to keep the data they collect secure and not share unnecessarily confidential survey data via reports, sharing of surveys, or other methods of reviewing or exporting data.

Request to use Qualtrics Group & SMS functionality

MSU Qualtrics Support can also set up a Group of individual accounts within Qualtrics, as well as enabling SMS functionality for your account. If interested, submit the Qualtrics Group request, or SMS request form.

Groups allow you to collaborate with other Group members. Group members have access to surveys, question and graphic libraries, and contact lists in the Group Library.

Qualtrics SMS Surveys helps you reach your audience through mobile devices and collect on-the-go pocket feedback. This page outlines how to set up an SMS survey distribution and provides best practices for conducting SMS surveys.

If you're interested in networking online and learning with Qualtrics users from around the world, the Qualtrics Community is a great option. This forum site allows you to get help from other Qualtrics users on Qualtrics products, including the Research Suite. It's a great location to learn how other users are utilizing Qualtrics for their research and business purposes.
